Evaluated various turnout designs using several methods to determine safe operating speeds for freight and passenger train traffic. Developed a model of running surface for each turn out and used it to calculate radius, mid cord ordinate, and centripetal acceleration/jerk at each point through out the turnout. Set maximum authorized speed in accordance with best engineering practices to manage risk with minimal impact to train operations.
Created engineering design and specification of replacements for 33 unique railroad crossings in poor or failing condition. Evaluated existing crossings and determined conditions with highest impact on fatigue and other modes of failure. Designs and specifications for replacement diamonds were developed from the ground up to be resilient to the specific demands of the environment they are in and the operations they support.
Managed rail testing projects for evaluating "in track" performance at multiple locations across eastern United States of America. Coordinated with domestic and international teams to ensure material properties sampling and dimensional assessments are conducted in the planned test windows. Lead sampling and assessment events to ensure they were conducted safely and efficiently. Maintained a safety record of zero team injuries and zero close calls. Analyzed new rail performance and made recommendations on approval to senior operation leadership.
Directed development project for new 16" abrasives sawblade. Assembled team of industry experts to test and provide feedback on a wide cross section of blades from multiple abrasives manufactures. Compiled and analyzed physical properties, performance data, and intangible feedback to provide a value ranking of available blades to guide purchasing decisions. Identified gap in 16" abrasives market and developed concept to address need. Forged partnership with manufacturer. Worked with business partner to develop concept into a market ready finished product.
